The Tone:
This is an intensive eight-week journalism internship at San Diego Union-Tribune, located in San Diego, CA. The San Diego Union-Tribune is San Diego’s largest and oldest media company, offering a diverse portfolio of publications including the award-winning San Diego Union-Tribune, the digital hub SanDiegoUnionTribune.com, and a collection of community newspapers. This internship provides highly motivated aspiring journalists with hands-on experience across various news beats in a major news region, contributing to a stronger, more inclusive San Diego through diverse and representative news coverage.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Experience: Gain intensive, hands-on journalism experience in a major news region known for significant stories.
• Development: Sharpen journalism and new media skills while learning directly from experienced professionals.
• Reporting: Report and write on diverse beats including public safety/courts, border, enterprise, arts and entertainment, sports, business, and photojournalism.
• Practice: Conduct interviews, research, and investigations as part of daily news coverage and assignments.
• Coverage: Cover news from a community perspective, engaging with local issues and narratives for the San Diego audience.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate from a college or university.
• Experience: Demonstrated strong record of participation in journalism or community leadership.
• Skills: Proficiency in reporting, writing, interviewing, researching, and investigating; highly motivated with strong initiative; ability to adapt to shift work and occasional driving for assignments; possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
