Operational Management Trainee – Fleet | WM

The Tone:
This is a full-time developmental training program position, designed to prepare individuals for a Fleet Manager role. The position requires travel within the Great Lakes Area (approximately 80% travel) and may require relocation for a permanent assignment after the 10-14 month program. WM manages a comprehensive fleet of primary and secondary equipment, relying on robust maintenance processes to support its operations. This role is crucial for developing future leaders who will lead, implement, and monitor maintenance processes, maximize fleet performance, and manage the full fleet within an assigned area.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Knowledge Acquisition: Develop a working knowledge of WM’s Fleet and general business applications.
• Skill Development: Build the skills required to progress from a Fleet Supervisor to a Fleet Manager.
• Safety Culture Contribution: Collaborate with Corporate and local safety teams to cultivate an aware and observant safety-conscious culture.
• Maintenance Documentation: Complete necessary paperwork using the fleet maintenance software program for vehicle repairs, parts usage, and repair time accounting.
• Professional Engagement: Actively participate in worksite meetings, huddles, and mentoring programs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s Degree in a Diesel Technician Certification program or a similar area of study. In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) with two (2) years of relevant work experience is required. Career level is Entry-Level.
• Experience: 0 – 6 months of previous work experience is required in addition to the education requirement.
• Skills: Valid Driver’s License; ability to complete assigned computer-based training; strong understanding and dedication to the WM Safety Program; proficiency in completing paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program.
