Merchandising Assistant Store Manager, in Training | The Home Depot
The Tone:
This is a full-time training program at The Home Depot, located in-person at various store locations. The Home Depot is a 140,891-person organization dedicated to home improvement retail. This role is crucial for developing future store leaders, providing hands-on experience and leadership development necessary to enhance customer service, optimize product availability, and improve store presentation across various merchandising departments. The individual will learn to drive sales and profitability while upholding company policies and leading by example.

• Team: Reports to the Store Manager, with no direct reports.
• Mission: To gain hands-on experience and develop leadership capabilities to effectively manage merchandising departments, ensuring successful execution of programs that boost customer service, product availability, and store presentation.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Training: Participate in a structured program covering all aspects of retail store management, including operations, customer service, sales, profitability, and company policies, completing assigned modules and assessments.
• Customer Experience: Supervise associates in selling efforts, lead the GET culture, and resolve customer concerns effectively and promptly to drive overall customer service and engagement.
• Operations Management: Perform opening, closing, and Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities, ensuring adherence to all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, while learning tactics to maintain process accuracy and mitigate shrink.
• Sales and Productivity: Collaborate with key partners to plan merchandise placement, execute signing, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to manage daily financial operations.
• Leadership Development: Learn and demonstrate performance management processes, including associate reviews and disciplinary actions, and acquire skills in staffing, scheduling, identifying stock deficiencies, and supporting service needs for both installed sales and product sales.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience: 1 year of work experience.
• Skills: Action Oriented, Collaborates, Customer Focus, Drives Results, Resourcefulness.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field, 3 years of preferred work experience, 3 years of preferred leadership experience, demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
