Assurance Intern – Summer 2027 | BDO USA
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at BDO USA, located in Orange County (Costa Mesa, CA). BDO is an ESOP company that provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and globally, helping them navigate complexity and move forward with clarity. As an Assurance Intern, you will begin to apply your educational background and organizational skills within a practice that values energetic self-starters. This role provides an opportunity to assist in problem-solving and fact-finding alongside experienced team members, offering direction, coaching, and unique hands-on learning. • Mission: Assist in problem-solving and fact-finding within the assurance practice, contributing to client service and gaining practical experience.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Learn and Apply: Participate in a structured on-the-job training program to become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and BDO’s specific audit methodology, preparing you to assist with various stages of the audit process.
• Support Engagements: Provide various support functions to audit staff throughout client engagements, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the audit team.
• Client Communication: Communicate with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties concerning audit issues, developing professional interaction skills.
• Documentation and Analysis: Prepare and document work in working papers utilizing BDO specific tools and templates, ensuring thorough and accurate record-keeping.
• Research and Presentation: Complete one assigned accounting or audit-related research project, researching relevant topics, and present the findings effectively to a panel of Assurance professionals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an Entry-Level internship requiring enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting. Candidates must also be actively pursuing school credits necessary to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Experience: No specific prior professional experience is required for this internship. Leadership experience in academic or extracurricular settings is preferred.
• Skills: Required proficiency includes Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include pursuing a Master’s degree in Accounting, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, effective teamwork, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.
