Gap Year Medical Assistant | MASS LUNG & ALLERGY (MLA)

This is an early career position at MASS LUNG & ALLERGY (MLA), located in a physician office setting in Massachusetts. MLA specializes in pulmonology, providing critical patient care while also serving as an educational environment where physicians hold faculty appointments at UMass Memorial. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a recent college graduate to gain invaluable hands-on experience and receive mentorship from experienced healthcare professionals. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the clinical team, vital for ensuring quality patient care and outstanding customer service.
The TL;DR

• Location: Leominster, MA (In-person)
• Team: Works collaboratively with all clinical services staff; reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Office Manager, and provider(s).
• Mission: This person ensures efficient patient flow, accurate initial medical screenings, and provides comprehensive support to both providers and patients within a specialized pulmonology practice.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Patient Record Management: Review and update patient records prior to appointments, including recent test results, lab results, compliance reports, and correspondence.
• Initial Patient Screening: Greet patients, confirm identity, perform vital sign measurements, verify allergies, reconcile medication lists, and document vaccination status.
• Direct Clinical Support: Assist physicians or nurses during examinations, teach patients the proper use of medical equipment, and administer immunizations and PPD tests.
• Patient Flow & Updates: Prepare patients for their visits, keep them updated on appointment status if the physician is unavailable, and assist with rescheduling as needed.
• Administrative & Environmental Support: Complete clinical administrative tasks, perform general clerical duties, clean exam rooms, and ensure all necessary supplies are stocked.
The Must-Haves
• Background: College Graduates (graduating May 2026 or earlier) with a strong interest in gaining hands-on experience in a medical office setting.
• Experience: No specific prior experience is required, but an eagerness to learn and contribute to a medical environment is essential.
• Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, beginner to intermediate computing and phone skills, flexibility, and a thorough understanding of HIPAA confidentiality.
• Bonus: Previous experience in a medical office setting; familiarity with the community/service area; valid Massachusetts Driver’s License, insurance, and the ability to travel to necessary office locations.
