Entry Level Home Health Aide – Hilo, Hawaii

Key Responsibilities:

• Personal Care Assistance: Assist clients with essential daily activities including, but not limited to, bathing, showering, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and toileting, always maintaining client dignity and privacy.
• Companionship and Emotional Support: Provide engaging companionship, listen actively, and offer emotional support to enhance clients’ well-being and alleviate feelings of loneliness. Engage in light conversation, reading, or other appropriate activities as per the care plan.
• Health Monitoring and Reporting: Observe and accurately monitor clients’ health status, noting any significant changes in physical condition, mood, behavior, or comfort levels. Promptly report all observations and concerns to the designated supervisor or nurse.
• Medication Reminders: Support clients by providing timely reminders to take prescribed medications as directed, ensuring adherence to their medication schedules. (Please note: HHA duties typically do not include administering medication directly but rather reminding clients to take them.)
• Light Housekeeping and Home Safety: Assist with light household tasks that contribute to a clean, safe, and organized living environment for the client, such as tidying common areas, laundry, and meal preparation. Ensure the home environment is free from hazards to prevent falls and promote overall safety.
• Meal Preparation Support: Assist with meal planning, preparation, and serving, ensuring clients receive nutritious and appealing meals according to their dietary needs and preferences.
• Documentation: Accurately document services provided, client observations, and any changes in condition as required by company policy.
• Ensuring Safety and Comfort: Proactively identify and address client needs, ensuring their ongoing safety, comfort, and general well-being in their home environment.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

• Compassion and Excellent Communication Skills: A genuine desire to help others, coupled with strong interpersonal and clear verbal communication skills to interact effectively with clients, families, and team members.
• Ability to Follow Care Plans and Instructions: Demonstrated capability to accurately understand and execute individualized care plans and follow directions from supervisors and healthcare professionals.
• Reliable and Punctual with a Positive Attitude: Dependable attendance, adherence to schedules, and a consistent positive, respectful, and professional demeanor are essential.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform duties that may require standing, walking, bending, lifting (within safe limits), and assisting with client transfers.
• Eligibility: Must meet all state and company requirements for employment as a Home Health Aide.
• Valid Driver’s License and Reliable Transportation: Preferred, but not always required depending on client assignments.
