Database Administrator MS Access, Emerging Talent Intern | Metropolitan Transportation Authority

The Tone:
This is an internship at Metropolitan Transportation Authority, located in Brooklyn, NY. The MTA is a large organization responsible for the operations and maintenance of the subway infrastructure system. This role supports the Department of Subways in managing crucial construction project data, enhancing efficiency, and improving decision-making through optimized databases and spreadsheets. The intern will play a key role in ensuring data quality and user satisfaction for systems vital to construction projects.

The TL;DR

• Mission: This intern will administer, optimize, create, and troubleshoot various databases and spreadsheets to support construction project management.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Learn and Optimize: Learn existing databases and spreadsheets in use to identify opportunities for optimization and improvement within construction and project management processes.
• Troubleshoot and Support: Provide help desk support and troubleshoot user issues encountered during the use of existing MS Access databases and Excel spreadsheets.
• Develop New Solutions: Develop new objects in Excel and Access, and create new spreadsheets and databases as requested by stakeholders for project management and construction.
• Data Quality and Reporting: Update various databases and spreadsheets, review and assess data for quality and accuracy, and prepare reports, graphs, and charts for management presentations.
• User Engagement and Auditing: Interact with end-users, verify and audit user entries, and demonstrate projects to improve user experience and decision-making.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Matriculated undergraduate student in good standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA, pursuing a degree in Computer Science (Database), Mathematics, Data Science, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate knowledge in MS Excel and MS Access.
• Skills: Organizational skills, analytical skills, communication skills, a keen eye for detail, ability to prioritize tasks effectively, and capacity to work independently while being an active team player.
