Data Analyst – Automatic Camera Enforcement (ACE), Emerging Talent Intern | Metropolitan Transportation Authority

The Tone:
This is an internship at Metropolitan Transportation Authority, located in New York, NY. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, specifically within the NYCT – Buses Fleet Technologies Group, leads a portfolio of innovative projects focused on enhancing operations, customer communications, and depot functions. This role is crucial for developing and implementing automatic camera enforcement systems that identify and address traffic law violations like bus lane, bus stop, and double-parking infractions, directly contributing to a more efficient and compliant transit network.

• Mission: To analyze data, build scripts and dashboards, and collaborate with vendor AI models to improve automatic camera enforcement systems for identifying traffic law violations and shaping transit network descriptions.

What You’ll Actually Do
Data Analysis & Compliance: Analyze real-world system data to evaluate performance, extract actionable insights, and review vendor compliance with requirements, including inspecting equipment during installation and analyzing operational data to ensure technical specifications are met.
Scripting & Reporting: Develop scripts for data analysis and transformation, aggregate operational metrics data, assist in generating performance reports, and support troubleshooting efforts as needed.
Field Engagement: Join field exercises to oversee installations of cutting-edge camera and license plate recognition technology, or to gather data and evidence for subsequent analysis, generally in office but occasionally out in the field.
Documentation & Visuals: Create charts and diagrams illustrating system functionality, compile reports using data from multiple, diverse sources, and thoroughly document analytical processes and procedures.
Project Collaboration: Collaborate with various project stakeholders to coordinate activities, attend project meetings to provide input, and contribute to the preparation of accurate financial reports by consolidating financial data from operational activities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least a 2.8 GPA, ready to dive into real-world systems.
• Experience: Actively pursuing a graduate degree in Data Science (preferred), any Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. This role involves reviewing vendor compliance, testing results, and shaping transit network descriptions.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; strong analytical skills to evaluate performance and uncover process improvements; excellent communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders and presenting data; good with data and scripting skills for analysis and transformation; strong organizational skills and a keen eye for detail; ability to work independently while being an active team player; and capacity to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Bonus: A major in Data Science is preferred.
