Category Lead Small Tools & Consumables | McCarthy Building Companies
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at McCarthy Building Companies, with an in-person, national scope. McCarthy Building Companies is a national construction firm, and this role is critical for centralizing and optimizing the procurement of small tools, safety gear, and general consumables across all operations. The lead will drive efficiency, standardize practices, and ensure financial performance for a vital product line that supports project execution firm-wide.

• Team: Reports to the Procurement pillar lead within the 02S structure
• Mission: Owns the small tools and consumables product line across McCarthy to build and operate a centralized, scalable program.
• Tech Stack: Source To Pay (S2P) catalogs, ERP/S2P systems, basic analytics/BI tools
What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategize Product Line: Own the enterprise strategy and roadmap for the Small Tools & Consumables product line, aligned with company goals.
• Manage Catalog & Suppliers: Build and maintain a standardized catalog of tools, PPE, and consumables, and lead supplier strategy including RFPs, contracts, and performance.
• Oversee Financial Performance: Own the product line’s P&L, manage the Procurement overhead model, and deliver on annual operating plan (AOP) targets.
• Engage Project Lifecycle: Provide standard menus and rate cards to project teams, ensuring tools and consumables are accurately represented in planning and drive compliance.
• Standardize Operations: Translate strategy into practical operating standards for regional teams, establish service expectations, and lead change management for program adoption.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field; a senior professional with significant exposure to tools, PPE, and consumables in procurement.
• Experience: 8+ years in construction, industrial, or distribution procurement, with proven experience in category management or product line ownership across multiple regions or business units, including demonstrated success managing financial performance.
• Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities, coupled with experience working with field operations and implementing sourcing technology and analytics tools.
• Bonus: Strong strategic sourcing and negotiation skills, solid financial acumen, excellent change leadership skills, and the ability to influence without direct authority.
