Assurance Intern – Summer 2027 (Chicago) | BDO USA
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at BDO USA, located in Chicago, IL. BDO is a leading firm providing assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and globally. This role offers energetic self-starters the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the Assurance practice, supporting client engagements and developing foundational professional relationships. Interns contribute to problem-solving and fact-finding, working alongside experienced team members to learn and grow their careers.

• Mission: Support the Assurance practice by assisting with audit processes and client communications to serve the firm’s client base.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Training: Participate in a structured on-the-job training program to become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
• Audit Assistance: Become familiar with BDO’s specific audit methodology to assist with various stages of the audit process and provide support functions to audit staff during engagements.
• Client Communication: Communicate with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties concerning audit issues.
• Documentation: Prepare and document work in working papers utilizing BDO specific tools and templates.
• Research & Presentation: Complete one assigned accounting or audit-related research project and present findings to a panel of Assurance professionals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting.
• Experience: Entry-level role, no prior professional experience required.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with GAAP and GAAS principles.
• Bonus: Pursuing a Master’s degree in Accounting, leadership experience, actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to follow instructions, ability to work effectively in a team setting, and a positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
