Assistant Operations Manager – DMT | Ports America
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Ports America, primarily conducted in-person within active terminal operations environments. Ports America is a leading terminal operator focused on efficient, safe, and productive handling of various cargo types for its customers. This management position is crucial as it places you on the front-line, directly influencing the daily success of terminal operations by supervising staff and ensuring operational excellence. What You’ll Actually Do
• Staff and Performance Management: Effectively manage the work activities of Foremen, Labor, and other personnel, ensuring performance expectations and customer needs are met, and promptly addressing any performance issues or grievances.
• Resource Planning & Allocation: Determine daily labor needs, ensure appropriate ordering of staff for assigned areas, and coordinate closely with M&R/Terminal Departments for optimal equipment allocation to meet operational demands.
• Operational Compliance & Safety: Ensure strict compliance with the company’s Safety program, accident prevention procedures, and workers’ compensation protocols, along with all company policies, procedures, and controls for both labor and staff.
• Financial Stewardship: Make informed and fiscally responsible decisions regarding overtime costs and general expenditures, consistently acting in the best interests of both Ports America and its customers.
• Procedural Development & Reporting: Develop, communicate, maintain, and improve operating and administrative procedures, ensuring all required reports are completed accurately and submitted on time to appropriate staff and customers.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a High School Diploma or GED and have a minimum of one year of experience in supply chain, logistics, warehouse, or a related discipline.
• Experience: At least one year of direct experience in the supply chain, logistics, warehouse, or a closely related field, including practical experience with Computerized Operating Systems. Must also obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security and hold a valid US Driver’s License.
• Skills: Proficient in MS Office, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication, possess strong abilities in planning and organizing to ensure efficient execution, and be capable of making sound decisions while responding quickly to operational issues.
• Bonus: Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations, a solid understanding of cargo stowage and stability, and a proven ability to drive and influence the performance of others.
