Administrative Support, Emerging Talent Intern | Metropolitan Transportation Authority
The Tone:
This is an onsite internship at Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), located in Flushing and Corona, NY. The MTA is a vital public transportation organization serving millions of people daily across the New York metropolitan area, with a significant bus network managed by departments like NYCT – Buses. This role directly supports the critical administrative functions of the Queens North Bus Division, which oversees multiple bus depots. The intern’s contributions are essential for maintaining accurate operational records, ensuring budget compliance, optimizing daily depot operations, and facilitating smooth administrative and human resource functions within the bus network, directly impacting service delivery goals.

• Mission: Optimize budget compliance and depot operations by generating, reviewing, and compiling essential reports and providing general administrative support for transportation and maintenance functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Management: Enter daily fuel and traffic data into departmental files, perform data entry using Microsoft Excel and other office applications, and maintain accurate recordkeeping and reporting for the Queens North Division.
• Reporting & Analysis: Compile, analyze, and submit daily morning and weekly division-wide reports for executive review, ensuring data accuracy to support budget compliance, Bus Operations, performance tracking, and service delivery goals.
• Operational Compliance: Review depot self-audits to ensure strict adherence to internal standards and procedures across the Queens North Division’s bus depots.
• Recordkeeping: Maintain organized physical and digital filing systems for the Division, including sorting, organizing, and ensuring accurate, compliant, and accessible Bus Files.
• Administrative Support: Provide comprehensive general administrative support to the Division office, encompassing tasks such as document management, internal communications, and assisting with special projects and additional assignments as needed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least a 2.5 GPA, or matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least a 2.8 GPA. Preferred majors include Accounting, Human Resources, Liberal Arts, Computer Science, Business Management, or a related field.
• Experience: Practical experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry, report preparation, and data analysis to support operational and budget functions.
• Skills: Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills; keen eye for detail; ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and perform under pressure while being an active team player.
