The Tone:
This is an early career Accountant role at A. O. Smith, available in a hybrid setting at either Appleton, WI, or Haltom, TX. A. O. Smith is a global leader with approximately 12,000 employees, applying innovative technologies to manufacture and market residential and commercial water heating equipment, boilers, and water treatment products worldwide. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate preparation, examination, and interpretation of accounting and financial records, reports, and statements, supporting the company’s financial integrity and operational analysis.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Record Management: Perform a variety of activities in the preparation, examination, and interpretation of accounting and financial records, reports, and statements.
• General Ledger & Month-End Support: Be involved with general ledger activities, budget processes, month-end closing, and various cost and financial analyses.
• Compliance & Internal Control: Observe all procedures and policies in accordance with GAAP, company policy, and federal/state regulations, and conduct internal financial and cycle count audits.
• Expense & Variance Analysis: Assemble plant expense analysis and report updates, reconcile all expenses to budget, settle and close production orders, and investigate production variances.
• Operational Accounting Support: Coordinate the accounts payable function for all plant operations, prepare bank reconciliations, handle specific monthly journal entries, and assist as backup for payroll, daily invoicing, and sales updating.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field; Entry-Level career.
• Experience: Internship, co-op, or 1-2 years of accounting experience preferred; experience with ERP systems preferred.
• Skills: Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
• Bonus: Manufacturing or inventory accounting exposure preferred; SAP knowledge a plus.
