The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role with Indiana University Health, offering a flexible schedule with 2 days in-office and 1 remote day per week upon successful completion of training and performance standards. This position specifically supports IU Health Methodist Hospital and IU Health University Hospital, serving as a critical hub for patient flow operations. You will be instrumental in optimizing patient transitions, ensuring timely assignments, and facilitating seamless communication among clinical teams, directly contributing to the hospitals’ operational efficiency and quality of care.

• Mission: Ensures the efficient and accurate management of patient admissions, transfers, and team assignments to maintain optimal patient flow and support clinical operations across multiple hospital units.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assignment: Assign overnight patient business, including new admissions and transfers, to appropriate care teams across all units.
• Documentation: Document all assigned team orders accurately within the Cerner system.
• Census Management: Compute and track the daily patient census, distributing this information along with overnight new business to hospitalist and ICU teams.
• Communication: Manage and prioritize consult and patient transfer calls throughout the day, triaging as necessary.
• Preparation: Disseminate new patient assignments, such as ER admits, post-ops, and ICU upgrades/downgrades, to appropriate teams and prepare daily paperwork for UH, MH, and ICU units for the next day.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should possess foundational knowledge in hospital operations, specifically related to patient admitting, bed management, patient placement, or patient throughput processes.
• Experience: Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in using Cerner for order entry and patient data management, along with strong skills in Microsoft Teams for collaboration and Excel for data organization. Previous experience within hospital operations, including an understanding of patient demographics and payer-related financial requirements, is preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency in Cerner; Strong Microsoft Teams and Excel skills; Excellent communication abilities; Highly collaborative team mindset; Detail-oriented and organized; Ability to prioritize and manage multiple workflows effectively.
• Bonus: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or LPN program is preferred. Additionally, the ability to work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively with diverse clinical and operational partners, coupled with strong interpersonal skills for professional interaction with physicians, leadership, patients, and nursing staff, is highly valued.
