Crisis Intervention Specialist (CAPS On Call) | Candeo Iowa

The Tone:
This is a part-time, on-call position at Candeo Iowa, located in Des Moines, IA. Candeo is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals live their best lives by providing support and teaching. This role serves as a vital resource for the Crisis Management Team, responding to client emergencies and supporting clients in crisis. You will also contribute to the development of new and existing staff through training and support.

• Mission: To serve as a vital on-call resource by promptly responding to client emergencies, supporting clients in crisis, and providing staff training.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Emergency Response: Act as an on-call resource to the CAPS Team by responding to client emergencies as required, ensuring timely intervention.
• Client & Staff Support: Support clients experiencing a crisis while providing essential training and ongoing support to both new and existing staff members.
• Crisis Debriefing: Conduct on-site debriefs with staff members who have been involved in a crisis incident to facilitate reflection and learning.
• Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks including reviewing crisis plans, attending CAPS meetings, and assisting with the training of new staff.
• Documentation & Reporting: Compile accurate and timely paperwork for services provided, including progress notes, CAPS Response forms within 24 hours, and other required reports.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Experience: One year of experience working with individuals with Chronic Mental Illness (CMI) is required.
• Skills: Ability to respond to calls within 15 minutes and in-person within 30 minutes, demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, high level of literacy in spoken and written English, ability to maintain calm during a crisis, and capacity to set appropriate staff/client boundaries.
• Bonus: Prior training in Motivational Interviewing, C3, ASIST, or Skills System (or willingness to complete within the first year of hire), a general understanding of Mental Health supports, and possession of a motor vehicle meeting safety standards, a valid Class C Iowa Driver’s License, and proof of automobile insurance.
