Assistant Store Director | Camp Roger and Camp Scottie

The Tone:
This is a part-time hourly role at Camp Roger and Camp Scottie, located in Rockford, MI. The organization operates a Christian ministry focused on celebrating God’s love through traditional camp experiences, outdoor education, and now, The Acorn Resale Shop. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth daily operations of the resale shop, which directly funds camp attendance for children, thus supporting the ministry’s core mission of impacting young lives.

• Team: Reports to the Store Director, The Acorn Resale Shop, and shares overall management responsibility with other staff.
• Mission: This person ensures the smooth daily operation of The Acorn Resale Shop and leads volunteers to support Camp Roger’s ministry by funding camp attendance.
• Tech Stack: Point-of-Sale terminal, payment terminal, counterfeit bill detector, Office 365

What You’ll Actually Do
• Daily Operations: Coordinate and actively participate in the intake, cleaning, repair, pricing, and stocking of donated goods to maintain store inventory.
• Guest Service: Provide excellent guest service and manage daily store operations, including operating POS, processing payments, and performing opening or closing duties.
• Volunteer Leadership: Act as an example and coach for volunteers, supervising their work, providing support, and assisting with volunteer scheduling and shortages.
• Store Management: Share responsibility for the store’s overall performance, including cash control, inventory management, security, and achieving financial goals.
• Culture Building: Champion strong communication, ensure compliance with store policies, and build a guest-focused culture of engagement and service.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Agreement to Camp Roger’s Faith and Life Covenant and a deep commitment to their Christian ministry to children. Core domain knowledge in retail operations and volunteer leadership.
• Experience: Demonstrated advanced-level knowledge and ability to operate Point-of-Sale, payment terminals, and counterfeit bill detectors. Proven ability to recruit, relate to, inspire, and coach volunteers effectively.
• Skills: Working knowledge of Office 365, strong attention to detail, effective problem-solving abilities, and excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
