NewsNation – Technical Director | Nexstar Media Group
The Tone:
This is a part-time role at NewsNation (Nexstar Media Group), located in our New York studios. NewsNation is a national news cable network currently reaching 75 million television households across the United States. This role is essential for preparing and switching video elements during live and pre-recorded programming, ensuring all broadcast content meets high-quality standards for national newscasts.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Broadcast Operations: Prepare and switch video elements during live and pre-recorded programming, adhering to director’s commands.
• Quality Assurance: React swiftly and accurately, ensuring all content output meets network quality standards.
• System Development: Build switcher effects and create Ross templates and shots for highly produced newscasts.
• Creative Contribution: Add creativity and ideas that enhance the final broadcast product.
• Team Collaboration: Communicate and document effectively and concisely to the rest of the team, potentially training others.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Professional live television broadcast operations with an understanding of national news production.
• Experience: Five plus (5+) years’ experience in professional live television broadcast operations, proficient with broadcast equipment including switchers, routing, CGs, video playback, and remote camera operation.
• Skills: Proficient with Ross Acuity Switcher, Ross XPression, and Ross XPression Tessera; detail-oriented; ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment; problem solver and quick thinker; self-sufficient with a “press-on-regardless” attitude; strong communication and documentation skills.
• Bonus: Other engineering/operating experience in areas of robotic cameras, graphics, audio, or transmission; Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field.
