UCLA Music Community Intern | Gift
The Tone:
This is a contract-based internship at Gift, operating remotely with a specific focus on the Los Angeles, CA area due to its connection with UCLA. Gift is a unique community platform built to foster genuine connections around shared interests like music, creators, and brands. It moves beyond self-promotion by emphasizing the celebration of others through shared photos, videos, links, and appreciative messages. On Gift, profiles are shaped by what others share, forming identities based on authentic relationships rather than performance. This role is pivotal in embodying Gift’s belief that social media should bring people together meaningfully, specifically by establishing and nurturing vibrant music-focused communities, with a special emphasis on the UCLA music scene and its related audiences.

• Mission: This person will build and nurture music-focused communities on the Gift platform, connecting UCLA’s music scene with a broader audience.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Community Building: Discover and actively engage with student musicians, music clubs, and local music initiatives to expand and deepen Gift’s presence within the UCLA music scene.
• Content Curation: Curate and share diverse, relevant music-related content, including links, photos, and videos, to stimulate interest and foster meaningful connections among community members.
• Interaction Facilitation: Proactively facilitate conversations and interactions, ensuring a consistent online presence to nurture an active, inclusive, and vibrant community on the Gift platform.
• Artist Support: Support the organization and execution of virtual events and highlight emerging artists to showcase talent and drive engagement within the growing music community.
• Strategy Development: Collaborate closely with the Gift team to test, refine, and implement innovative community-building strategies specifically tailored for music audiences.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Possesses a strong interest and foundational knowledge in Music and the Music Industry, including familiarity with current trends and campus music culture. This role requires skills in Music Performance or Music Production to effectively communicate with artists and understand their creative processes, alongside a background or coursework in Music Education or related fields that supports constructive feedback and community learning opportunities.
• Experience: Demonstrated comfort with online community platforms and social media. Proven ability to work independently and effectively in a remote setting, requiring reliable internet access and consistent online presence.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to engage diverse community members in a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive manner. Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and a consistent follow-through on all aspects of outreach, content curation, and event support.
• Bonus: Current UCLA student or a recent graduate with established ties to the UCLA music community is highly preferred.
