Graduate Assistant – Athletics Equipment
Grand Canyon University’s Athletic Department is passionate about helping student-athletes achieve their highest level of excellence. What You Will Do
- Perform a variety of administrative tasks including the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, data entry and analysis, ordering equipment/apparel, inventory/stocking, and coordinating embellishment with Canyon Promotions.
- Facilitate department or sport-related projects from inception to completion.
- Manage and maintain the current software platform utilized for ordering, inventory, and distribution of athletic equipment.
- Be responsible for planning and organizing the activities of an assigned sport, project, unit, or function, ensuring all necessary infrastructure is in place.
- Review departmental needs and expectations to determine the most effective means of executing specific duties, ensuring goals are met in a timely fashion (e.g., laundry operations, product fulfillment, equipment ordering).
- Develop and schedule program work plans in accordance with specifications and funding limitations; oversee daily operations and coordinate program activities, determining priorities as needed.
- Partner and collaborate with various internal contacts or customers to coordinate activities, promote cooperation in the submission or collection of information/data, products, or services, and support process improvement initiatives.
- Manage the flow of activities and act as a key liaison to all others involved in the athletics equipment operation.
- Act as the equipment room liaison on scheduled home competitions, ensuring all equipment needs are met.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Athletic Department.
What You Will Need
- Admission to a graduate degree-seeking program at GCU. (Certificate-only programs do not satisfy this requirement).
- A minimum GPA of 3.0. (For newly admitted students, the admission GPA is considered. A student must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during employment).
- Enrollment as a “regular” (not provisional) degree-seeking student for at least 6 graduate-level units leading to the degree. (Undergraduate or audited courses do not satisfy this requirement. Hiring departments may require a higher enrollment).
- Assistantships may be revoked at any time if duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily.
- As a student and employee, Graduate Assistants must uphold the University’s Student Code of Conduct.
- Graduate Assistants are eligible for a waiver of tuition for the period employed. (Waiver of tuition may be taxable income).
- Must follow HR employment workflow processes and successfully complete pre-employment background checks.
- Graduate Assistants have restricted work hours (maximum of 29 hours per week).
- Eligibility for a graduate assistantship ceases once all degree requirements for the planned program of study are met.
- “Incomplete” grades must be removed during the period following the teaching period in which the “I” was recorded to continue the assistantship.
- Graduate Assistants are part-time employees and are not eligible for GCU’s employment benefits, except those stipulated by law.
