Athletics Ticket Office Assistant

The Athletics Ticket Office at the University of Virginia plays a crucial role in supporting the Department of Athletics’ mission by focusing on excellent customer service, maximizing ticket sales revenue, and increasing attendance at athletics-related events. This position contributes directly to these strategic goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with athletic and university ticketed events, including event set-up and breakdown.
  • Ensure a consistently high level of customer service, both in the office and during events.
  • Support the season ticket renewal process with a strong emphasis on client retention.
  • Contribute to data-driven decision-making by building sales and revenue reports, with a preference for proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Assist in maintaining precise data and financial records for both the Athletics Ticket Office and the Virginia Athletic Foundation.
  • Provide exemplary customer service across multiple channels: phone, face-to-face, live chat, text, and email interactions, ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Assist with the daily maintenance of ticket system software and office equipment.
  • Process ticket orders efficiently using dedicated ticket software and equipment.
  • Perform office errands and other departmental duties as needed.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively as a team member.

  • Possess public communication skills for professional representation of the University of Virginia to a diverse range of business, government, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, in person, email, etc.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills are required.

  • Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information, and apply judgment to solve both routine and complex problems.
  • Ability to perform well under stress and maintain a positive attitude.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

  • Required to travel to various locations both on and off Grounds.
  • Able to stand for extended periods at both indoor and outdoor events.
  • Will be required to sit to perform deskwork and type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to listen and speak effectively for oral communication.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to navigate facilities.
  • Able to handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop to perform tasks.
  • Regularly lift up to 40 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (4+ years’) related experience.
  • Experience: Some working knowledge of the specific sport program to be supported.
  • Licensure: None.

Physical Demands

Primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs. The description for “Physical and Sensory Abilities” above also applies.
