Early Career Environmental Scientist | WSP

This is an early career position at WSP, located in Kansas City, MO. This role is vital for supporting local technical assistance in environmental science, focusing on the collection and compilation of data to identify, control, and prevent disruption to environmental systems and species caused by human activity. Your work will directly contribute to preserving environmental quality and supporting community prosperity.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To identify, control, and prevent disruption to environmental systems and species caused by human activity through data collection, analysis, and technical assistance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Surveys: Conduct natural resource field surveys, collecting observational, spatial, and environmental data under general supervision.
• Sampling: Collect and compile samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for analysis.
• Documentation: Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebooks.
• Technical Assistance: Assist with performing basic professional environmental science work related to ecological systems, air, and water resources.
• Technology Use: Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of habitats, sites, and potential environmental impacts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
• Experience: Familiarity with research techniques, local/regional ecology and habitats, applicable species/discipline, and relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Skills: Analytical skills, competent interpersonal and communication skills for scientific and non-scientific audiences, proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and basic proficiency with business writing and office automation software.
• Bonus: Membership in and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations.
