VP, Buy-side M&A and Ownership Transition Advisor | BMO U.S.
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at BMO U.S. The BMO Corporate Advisory team (BCA) provides advisory services and related analytics for strategic transactions and corporate finance topics to commercial clients and prospects. BCA works in close partnership with BMO’s commercial banking team, supporting companies throughout their lifecycle with services covering corporate growth, ownership transition, and general corporate finance. This role is crucial for leading client engagements, driving revenue opportunities, and delivering expert advice to help clients meet their strategic objectives and navigate ownership transitions.

• Team: Within the BMO Corporate Advisory team (BCA), collaborating with commercial banking and other BMO Financial Group platforms.
• Mission: Drive revenue opportunities by positioning BMO as a value-added advisor and financing source for strategic transactions and ownership transitions.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Operate as a key member of the relationship team to position the bank as a strategic advisor to clients and prospects.
• Lead strategic discussions directly with boards of directors, shareholders, and executive management teams of clients and prospects.
• Provide leadership to relationship teams to deliver high-quality, comprehensive transaction execution, differentiating BMO as an indispensable strategic and lending partner.
• Collaborate with commercial banking teams to generate ideas, identify client solutions, pursue sector marketing efforts, cover clients, and deliver timely solutions.
• Provide transaction structuring expertise on debt, equity, and hybrid securities, working with specialists as needed to support successful syndication and sales.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate degree with a focus on finance, economics, or accounting. MBA or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, and business law.
• Experience: 7+ years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, or corporate finance. Experience working with and advising ESOPs throughout their lifecycle. Experience negotiating and structuring M&A and other transactions.
• Skills: Expert knowledge of capital markets, transaction legal matters, and risk management. Proven leadership skills, including experience with mentoring and developing junior talent. Understanding of credit analysis.
