VISTA Summer Associate | Treasure Coast Food Bank (TCFB)

The Tone:
This is a VISTA Summer Associate role at Treasure Coast Food Bank (TCFB), located in Fort Pierce, FL, serving the St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, and Indian River counties. TCFB is dedicated to reducing poverty and strengthening communities through its Ending Hunger Initiative. This role provides hands-on experience supporting regional anti-poverty efforts by contributing to direct service activities and capacity-building efforts. Summer Associates will help improve program delivery, expand community reach, and enhance access to vital food and supportive services.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Seasonal, Part-time (10-week assignment, 20–25 hours/week)
• Location: Fort Pierce, FL
• Pay: $957.46 bi-weekly
• Mission: Support the Ending Hunger Initiative to increase access to nutritious food, strengthen community connections, and address the root causes of food insecurity.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Child Nutrition: Assist with the preparation, distribution, and tracking of meals for seasonal child nutrition programs, ensuring food safety and community participation.
• Program Coordination: Support the setup, execution, and organization of various in-house programs, contributing to documentation, tracking, and process improvements.
• Mobile Food Distribution: Facilitate mobile food distribution programs by assisting with on-site setup, coordination, and direct community engagement to improve access.
• Community Engagement: Engage directly with diverse community members across all programs to support participation and strengthen connections to supportive services.
• Marketing & Communications (Limited): Contribute to social media content and storytelling, capturing program impact and supporting communications for the Ending Hunger Initiative.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a strong interest in community impact, service delivery, and anti-poverty initiatives.
• Experience: Not specified, but individuals with lived experience related to food insecurity or the communities served are highly encouraged to apply.
• Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management abilities; comfort engaging with diverse populations; basic computer and technology proficiency.
• Bonus: Valid driver’s license, prior experience in community programs or service environments, college enrollment or degree, creative or social media skills (for marketing), or bilingual language skills.
