Internal Audit – Credit Risk | Mizuho
The Tone:
This is a Vice President, Internal Audit – Credit Risk role at Mizuho, located in our New York City office, with a hybrid work schedule. This role is critical for providing independent assurance on the effectiveness of credit risk governance, risk management practices, internal controls, and regulatory compliance, directly contributing to the firm’s stability and operational excellence.

• Mission: Provide independent assurance on the effectiveness of credit risk governance, management practices, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Audit Leadership: Lead all phases of the audit lifecycle, including planning, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up activities for credit risk audits.
• Risk Assessment: Assess the identification, measurement, monitoring, and management of credit risk across business lines and products, supporting annual risk assessments and continuous monitoring.
• Issue Validation: Lead issue validation activities related to regulatory findings, internal audit observations, and third-party reviews, evaluating remediation plans and corrective actions.
• Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement: Support interactions with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and other third parties as appropriate.
• Operational Enhancement: Drive efficiency and consistency by adhering to Internal Audit policies and methodologies, identifying opportunities to enhance audit effectiveness through process improvements.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field; core understanding of internal audit principles, risk management frameworks, and regulatory expectations.
• Experience: 5-8+ years of relevant experience in internal audit, external audit, risk management, or regulatory supervision within financial services; strong experience auditing and/or assessing credit risk management frameworks in banking or capital markets; experience leading audits, issue validations, and interacting with senior management and regulators.
• Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of credit risk management and associated banking and capital markets products; excellent analytical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities; strong written, verbal, and presentation skills to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
• Bonus: Advanced degree and/or professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, CA, or MBA.
