Job Title: Vet Tech Student Extern

Overview:
This opportunity is designed for veterinary technician students currently enrolled in an AVMA accredited Vet Tech program to gain practical experience. The extern will support clinical operations by assisting with patient care, performing routine technical tasks, and observing advanced medical procedures under supervision. The role involves direct interaction with veterinary teams, contributing to diagnostic and treatment processes, and developing practical skills in a professional veterinary setting.

Hours:
• Monday – Friday: 7:30am – 6:00pm

Eligibility and Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled in an AVMA CVTEA-accredited Veterinary Technician/Nursing program.
Must be eligible to participate in an externship as part of academic program requirements.
Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities:
The Vet Tech Student Extern will be responsible for a range of tasks designed to provide comprehensive exposure to veterinary practice, including:
• Assisting credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians with various clinical procedures.
• Observing and actively participating in the care of a variety of medical cases.
• Supporting daily clinical operations, which includes patient intake, treatment, and discharge processes.
• Collaborating effectively with all veterinary team members, including assistants, hospital managers, and specialists.
• Adhering strictly to clinical protocols and safety procedures within the veterinary setting.
• Actively participating in mentorship and training sessions to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
• Completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as outlined by the supervising technician or hospital manager.
• Providing constructive feedback through a post-externship survey to support program improvement.
• Performing other duties as assigned that fall within the nature and level of the externship work.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates for this externship must be capable of:
Standing for extended periods.
Lifting and restraining animals of various sizes.
• Possessing manual dexterity for handling instruments and performing clinical tasks.
• Working in a clinical environment that involves exposure to animals, allergens, and cleaning agents.
