The Tone:
This is an Extra-Help internship with Merced County Cooperative Extension, located in Merced, CA. Merced County Cooperative Extension is dedicated to extending research and education from the University of California to local communities, helping to address critical issues in agriculture, natural resources, and youth development. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly support UCCE Advisors and staff with vital agriculture research projects, contributing to key data collection, event facilitation, and operational support that benefits the local agricultural industry and community throughout Merced County.

• Mission: Assist UCCE Advisors and staff with agriculture research projects.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Research Support: Assist UCCE Advisors and staff with agriculture research projects.
• Data Management: Perform accurate data collection and subsequent data entry.
• Event Coordination: Organize and facilitate UCCE events and activities throughout Merced County.
• Resource Maintenance: Maintain the resource library, as well as supplies and equipment storage.
• Operational Support: Perform other duties as assigned to support daily operations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be at least 18 years old. Desirable education includes coursework in agriculture/horticulture such as soils, plant science, or weed management.
• Experience: Must possess and be able to maintain a valid California Driver’s license. Requires travel to various county locations from the UCCE office in Merced. Flexibility to be at work at 7:00 am, or work occasionally past 5:00 pm, is necessary, with half days acceptable.
• Skills: Capability to lift up to 50 pounds; Ability to walk on uneven terrain (e.g., tomato fields and orchards); Willingness and ability to work outside in hot and dusty conditions.
• Bonus: Priority consideration for individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, or a formerly incarcerated youth.
