GHD is actively seeking a bright and motivated individual for a Transportation Planning – Internship to join our esteemed Mobility and Places team. This exciting opportunity is based in our vibrant offices across Long Beach, Irvine, and Los Angeles, CA.

In this pivotal intern role, you will be immersed in the foundational engineering duties related to the planning, design, and oversight of critical infrastructure. While the broader scope of civil engineering encompasses various structures like roads, railroads, airports, bridges, and water systems, your primary focus within this internship will be on contributing to transportation planning initiatives. You will support our senior engineers and planners in developing sustainable and efficient transport solutions that enhance connectivity and mobility.

  • Personal Capability Building: Actively engage in your professional development by participating in assessment and development planning activities. You will also be encouraged to develop and maintain a strong understanding of relevant technologies, external regulations, and industry best practices through continuous education, attending relevant conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Knowledge Management System: Learn to efficiently utilize GHD’s comprehensive knowledge management system to access specific project information, best practices, and essential resources, becoming a proactive learner within the team.
  • Engineering Inspections: Provide crucial technical support during inspections of engineering works, assessing quality and ensuring the integrity of existing installations or structures. You will also assist in identifying and documenting remedial works needed, all in strict accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Engineering Standards Specification: Under the expert guidance of more senior colleagues, you will carry out a range of activities to support the drafting of engineering standards and specifications. You’ll also contribute to the evaluation of their effectiveness, ensuring they meet current industry benchmarks.
  • Improvement/Innovation: Play a supportive role in fostering continuous improvement and innovation by implementing suggested enhancements and carrying out simple change management tasks that contribute to project efficiency.
  • Engineering Solutions Design: Participate in the feasibility testing of proposed engineering solutions. Under supervision, you will provide valuable feedback and contribute to the validation process of designs, learning the critical steps in engineering solution development.
  • Product and Solution Development: Support the team by assisting in a range of product development and engineering activities, which may include analyzing client situations, interpreting complex data sets, and contributing to the conceptualization of new solutions.
  • Contract Management: Gain practical experience by carrying out a variety of contract management tasks, learning the administrative and technical aspects of project agreements.
  • Project Management: Contribute to the successful delivery of projects by supporting various project management activities, from scheduling and resource allocation to reporting and communication, gaining insight into the full project lifecycle.

What You Will Bring To The Team:

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a civil engineering or an equivalent Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program. We value academic rigor and a strong foundational understanding of engineering principles.

Experience:

  • General Experience: No prior professional experience is required. This internship is designed for aspiring engineers eager to kickstart their careers and gain invaluable hands-on experience in a leading global firm.

Salary Range: $23.00 – $26.00 per hour, with compensation determined based on your experience level and the specific office location.
