Trades Helper | Georgia State University
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Georgia State University, located in Atlanta, GA. The Facilities Renovations Division is actively growing and seeks a dedicated individual to join its team. The Trades Helper role is vital for supporting skilled trades, performing essential semi-skilled tasks, and contributing directly to the ongoing improvements across the campus.
The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:45 PM
• Location: In-person, Atlanta, GA
• Pay: $35600–$42700 yearly
• Team: Facilities Renovations Department
• Mission: This person assists skilled trades employees with routine repairs, maintenance, and renovation tasks to support the university’s facilities.
• Tech Stack: Simple power tools, belt sanders, electric drills, vehicles
What You’ll Actually Do
• Maintenance Support: Perform various routine repairs and maintenance tasks as assigned, supporting diverse trade areas.
• Demolition & Cleanup: Clean work areas, sweep, collect trash, assist in demolition activities, and move supplies and equipment.
• Electrical Assistance: Pull electric cables and assist in checking and testing meters, relays, and heating and air-conditioning equipment.
• Renovation Aid: Assist and participate in sanding sheetrock.
• Equipment & Supply Handling: Transport tools and equipment to and from storage and work areas, operate simple power tools, and operate vehicles to pick up and deliver supplies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: Six months of experience assisting carpenters, electricians, or other skilled trades employees; a valid Georgia driver’s license is required.
• Skills: Knowledge of tools, methods, and practices of building trades; knowledge of occupational hazards of building trades and safety precautions; ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Bonus: Ability to lift 50 lbs.; ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous manual tasks.
