Manager Trainee | J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.

The Tone:

• Mission: To learn and execute the management of driver operations, ensuring safe and timely freight movement, DOT compliance, and exceptional customer service.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Relationship Building: Learn to build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and external carriers to ensure seamless operations and maximize productivity.
• Operational Management: Fill in for absent personnel and work on special projects focused on optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability.
• Employee Development: Learn to utilize personnel management techniques, including training and orientation for drivers and employees, across internal and customer systems.
• Efficiency Maximization: Become proficient in maximizing the efficiency and profitability of fleet operations, making recommendations for continuous improvement, and reporting on key performance indicators.
• Resource Allocation: Gain knowledge on how to manage inventory, assets, and customer pools, including the assignment of drivers, to balance equipment effectively within the market.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field. Alternatively, a High School Diploma/GED combined with 1 year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience.
• Experience: Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable. Ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed. Willingness to regionally relocate dependent on account assignment.
• Skills: Understanding of DOT regulations compliance, customer service principles, freight planning and routing, and basic financial analysis (P&L, budget management).
• Bonus: Experience managing a team, anticipating and resolving conflicts, analyzing situations to make productive decisions, adapting to changing environments, building healthy working relationships, meeting team/driver needs, effectively communicating, and recognizing operational problems.
