Tax Intern, Business Incentives Group, Accounting Methods | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is an internship at BDO USA, located in multiple US cities. BDO USA is an ESOP company that provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and globally. This role supports the Accounting Methods team by assisting with data collection, basic research, and the preparation of workpapers for federal tax accounting method projects. The intern gains hands-on experience in tax consulting and develops technical and professional skills under close supervision.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Management: Assists in gathering and organizing client financial data and supporting documentation for tax projects.
• Workpaper Preparation: Prepares and maintains basic workpapers essential for use in tax accounting method analyses.
• Research & Summarization: Performs directed research on federal tax accounting method topics and concisely summarizes key points.
• Document Drafting: Supports the team in preparing draft accounting method change forms and any related schedules.
• Project Observation: Observes client calls and internal discussions to gain exposure to client service and project management processes.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program, with an entry-level career focus.
• Experience: No specific years of experience required.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels; solid organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel & Word.
• Bonus: A focus in Accounting, Tax, or Finance for academic studies is preferred; leadership experience is a plus; a desire to understand why tasks are performed and to seek learning opportunities is valued.
