Tax Accountant Internship, Summer | General Dynamics Information Technology

The Tone:
This is a full-time summer internship at General Dynamics Information Technology, located in Herndon, VA with a hybrid schedule. General Dynamics Information Technology is a global technology and professional services company that delivers technology solutions and mission services to every major agency across the U.S. government, defense, and intelligence community. This role matters as it supports the GDIT Tax Department, making a direct impact on a broad variety of projects and helping to deliver successful solutions to GDIT’s internal and external clients.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Forecast: Participate in tax forecasts including liability, cash tax, and effective tax rate.
• Support: Identify and support tax saving or risk mitigating opportunities, then assist in their implementation and management.
• Research: Research jurisdictional tax law and maintain current knowledge of tax laws affecting the company.
• Analyze: Analyze and prepare journal entries including income and transactional taxes, and analyze tax ramifications of contract proposals.
• Improve: Identify and support process improvements, systems enhancements, and process automation within the department.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree program in economics, finance, statistics, accounting, or a related discipline from a United States-based college or university, with a minimum of one semester remaining in studies after the internship concludes.
• Experience: 0+ years of related experience. Requires strong planning and organizational skills, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with managers and team members in a remote environment.
• Skills: Accounting, Microsoft Excel (including data analysis, pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, and charts), Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams), excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal and written communication skills, genuine intellectual curiosity, and a nimble mindset.
• Bonus: Knowledge of tax accounting principles, experience interpreting financial statements, exposure to quantitative financial analysis, proficiency in VBA, knowledge of project management and data analytics, analytical and quantitative skills for working with and synthesizing big data into actionable insights, and comfort using data software to conduct analyses and synthesize findings.
