Job Description: Supply Chain Professional Development Program (PDP) Internship
The BASF Supply Chain Professional Development Program (PDP) Internship is a dynamic 10 to 12-week immersive experience designed for students to gain hands-on experience within BASF’s Operations and Supply Chain teams. This program offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful projects that directly support business objectives, collaborating closely with seasoned professionals to gain deep insights into supply chain processes and strategies.
Key Aspects of the Internship:
• Skill Development: Interns will acquire essential skills in logistics, inventory management, and process optimization. The program is structured to accelerate career growth by providing leadership opportunities and strategic insights vital for a successful future in supply chain management.
• Dynamic Environment: No two days are alike in this program. Interns will engage in a fast-paced environment, tackling diverse challenges, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and adapting to rapidly changing situations. The role encourages innovation and real-time problem-solving.
• Key Areas of Impact: Interns may contribute to various critical supply chain functions, including:
• Customer support and various planning activities (demand, import, raw material, or production).
• Ensuring the efficient flow of goods and services from suppliers to customers, enhancing operational streamlining and overall efficiency.
• Coordinating transportation, warehousing, and distribution, utilizing analytical skills to assess routes, manage shipping costs, and ensure timely deliveries while maintaining high customer satisfaction.
• Overseeing product supply to meet customer demand, involving monitoring stock levels, forecasting demand, and implementing inventory control systems to prevent losses and reduce costs.
• Continuous assessment and improvement of business processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and maximize productivity, potentially involving new technologies, workflow redesigns, or lean methodologies.
Professional Growth & Development:
• Tool Exposure: Interns will gain exposure to and experience with applications and digital tools such as PowerBI, CoPilot, and SAP.
• Project Presentation: At the internship’s conclusion, interns will present their summer project to fellow interns, BASF employees, and senior leaders, showcasing their contributions and impact.
• Mentorship: Each participant is assigned a peer mentor—a full-time program participant—who provides guidance throughout the program. This fosters expertise development and networking opportunities at senior levels within BASF, potentially leading to long-term mentoring relationships.
• Networking: Interns have extensive networking opportunities, including participation in Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at their site. A week-long orientation at the New Jersey headquarters provides a chance to engage with alumni and executive leadership. Interns also collaborate with full-time PDP participants to organize a community service volunteer day for National Intern Day.
Candidate Qualifications:
• Academic Focus: Students majoring in Supply Chain or Logistics.
• Graduation Date: Between May 2027 and July 2029.
• Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions.
• Mobility: Willingness to relocate anywhere in the country during and after the program is crucial, as all assignments are in-person or hybrid. Potential locations include New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana. This enhances exposure to diverse business environments and global operations.
• Experience & Skills:
• Demonstrated previous leadership experience and strong academic achievement.
• Active participation in extracurricular activities and on-campus organizations.
• Previous internship/co-op experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with tools such as PowerBI, SAP, and advanced Excel proficiency is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI tools like CoPilot is a plus.
• Strong interest in the manufacturing or chemical industry.
• Project management experience is beneficial.
Future Opportunities:
Interns will be assessed for potential offers for a returning internship or a full-time position in BASF’s 2-year rotational program, emphasizing the company’s commitment to internal talent development.
Compensation:
The competitive pay range for this internship is $1,387 – $1,993 semi-monthly. Actual pay and any sign-on bonuses will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors.
