Your Opportunity
We are actively seeking a motivated and talented Engineering Intern to join our Automation Engineering department for the summer of 2024. This exciting internship is available at either our Owensboro, KY or Longview, TX locations. This is more than just an internship; it’s an immersive learning experience designed to provide a strong foundation in a dynamic engineering field. You will receive dedicated mentorship from experienced professionals, gain invaluable hands-on experience, and cultivate essential soft skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, all within a supportive and collaborative environment.
What You’ll Do
As an Engineering Intern in Automation, you will be introduced to the diverse responsibilities of an Automation Engineer, contributing to critical projects and operational support. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with project development and management activities, adhering to Boardwalk Pipeline’s rigorous standards, policies, and procedures to meet customer needs.
- Supporting all phases of electrical and control systems project design, including project estimates, scope of work definition, budget forecasting, and procurement.
- Contributing to construction scheduling and inspecting installations to ensure quality and compliance.
- Engaging in PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) programming activities.
- Participating in commissioning and startup duties for new and upgraded systems.
- Providing advanced technical support to various departments such including Automation Services, Engineering & Construction, SCADA, IT, and Field Operations personnel.
- Assisting with problem solving, troubleshooting, and optimizing existing station/unit control systems and electrical/automation equipment.
- Reviewing design drawings and providing valuable input.
What You Bring
We are looking for bright, inquisitive individuals who are passionate about engineering and eager to learn. To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A strong interest in PLC logic and programming.
- An interest in HMI configuration and programming.
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for control systems, electrical power systems, and engineering economics.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management abilities.
- A proactive willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.
Bonus Points For
- Being enrolled in your Junior or Senior year of a current engineering program.
- Prior exposure to PLC logic and programming.
- Familiarity with HMI programming.
- A basic understanding of panel design and layout concepts.
