Job Title: Summer Engineering Intern

Internship Overview:
Join Separators, Inc. as a Summer Engineering Intern for a 12-week paid internship located onsite at our Indianapolis, IN facility. This role offers hands-on experience in mechanical design, reverse engineering, CAD modeling, technical documentation, and process improvement. You will work on real-world projects aimed at enhancing our operations and supporting innovation in industrial centrifuge technology.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, curious, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn and apply engineering fundamentals. This position, within our Technical Service Group, will focus on supporting and facilitating improvements to technical drawings, developing and implementing SOPs, and integrating a QR code system into machine nameplate tags. Key projects will include the R25L prototype and demonstration, QR code integration, and water recirculation improvements.

Job Responsibilities:

Prototype Development:

  • Reverse engineer existing R25L Rotosieve.
  • Create an operational model for training and teaching purposes.
  • Develop a system to simulate the machine in process.
  • Produce a demonstration video explaining R25L functionality.

Digital Integration:

  • Implement a QR code system on machine nameplates for troubleshooting and parts reference.
  • Develop SOPs for creating and installing machine-specific frame tags.

Process Improvement:

  • Assist in the water recirculation upgrade for the Bowl Shop (including pump sizing, supply lines, and holding tanks).
  • Estimate water consumption for machines in use.

Engineering Support:

  • Reverse engineer tools/parts using SolidWorks.
  • Provide general support to the Technical Service Group as needed.

Desired Skills:

Technical:

  • SolidWorks and AutoCAD proficiency.
  • Ability to reverse engineer components.
  • Basic understanding of fluid systems.
  • Proficient with Office365 applications.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Able to apply hands-on working knowledge using logic or scientific reasoning.
  • Curious and willing to learn.
  • Able to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Possess effective communication skills.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) onsite in Indianapolis, IN.
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment.
  • Knowledge of centrifuge systems is a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand, walk, and move around a shop environment for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling tools, parts, and computer-based tasks.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs safely.
  • Comfortable working near industrial equipment and machinery.
  • Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe shoes.
  • Visual acuity to read technical drawings and inspect parts.
  • Able to bend, kneel, and reach as needed for assembly or inspection tasks.
