Job Title: Student Intern I Instructional Aide

Purpose Statement:
The Student Intern I Instructional Aide provides essential support to the instructional program, both within and outside the assigned classroom. Key responsibilities include:
• Working with individual and/or small groups of students to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning.
• Performing a variety of instructional and classroom management supports.
Supervising students outside of the classroom.
• Performing clerical tasks to support teachers and staff.

Supervisory Relationship:
This position reports directly to the Peer to Peer teacher and program instructional aides.

Essential Functions:
The core duties and responsibilities of this role include:
First Aid Administration: Administering first aid as instructed by a healthcare professional.
Student Assistance: Helping students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (e.g., reading, writing, English lessons, reinforcing learning concepts).
Classroom Support: Assisting teachers in adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support and reinforce objectives.
Meeting Participation: Attending meetings and in-service presentations on topics such as technology, child development, instructional strategies, and student behavior.
Communication: Communicating with teachers and students regarding instructional objectives, student needs, progress, and activity planning.
Material Management: Maintaining classroom supplies, materials, work areas, and managing manual and electronic files and records.
Student Monitoring: Supervising individual and groups of students in various settings (classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus areas) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
Instruction: Providing small group instruction under teacher supervision in subjects like math, reading, social skills, and self-care.
Incident Reporting: Documenting and reporting observations and incidents related to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate behavior, rule violations, safety concerns).
Emergency Response: Responding to emergency situations (e.g., injured students, fights, school drills) to address immediate safety concerns.
Teacher Support: Assisting classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
Student Support: Helping students with classroom assignments, tests, homework, and make-up work, and monitoring students engaged in independent study, enrichment, or remedial work.
Other Functions: Performing additional related duties as assigned to ensure efficient classroom and school operations.

Work Environment:

Experience:
• Must be a current BPS high school student who has completed 2 years of involvement with Peer-to-Peer Leadership.

Education:
• Must be in their Junior or Senior year in High School.

Clearances:
• Requires Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.

FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt.

Salary Grade:
Step SA up to 4 years on the Support Staff Salary Schedule.
