Staff Accountant | loanDepot
The Tone:
This is a hybrid Staff Accountant role at loanDepot, located in Irvine, CA, requiring two days per week on-site. loanDepot is a digital commerce company that has transformed the mortgage industry since 2010 with a digital-first approach, simplifying the homeownership journey for its customers. This role is crucial for the Loan Accounting team, ensuring financial reporting accuracy and adherence to trust account rules by meticulously recording, reconciling, and analyzing loan-related transactions. The Staff Accountant provides timely and accurate financial information to Operations and Accounting leadership.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Loan Transaction Management: Review, record, and analyze loan accounting transactions, including fundings, payoffs, and borrower refunds.
• Monthly Close Support: Maintain loan accounting schedules and contribute to the monthly close process by preparing and posting journal entries to the general ledger.
• Warehouse Line Accounting: Record warehouse line activity, including advances, paydowns, and interest, then reconcile balances to lender statements and resolve any differences.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile balance sheet and trust accounts, promptly researching and resolving all identified reconciling items.
• Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all loan-related activity adheres to trust account rules, company policies, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), while also preparing reports and spreadsheet analyses for management.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience: 1-3 years of professional accounting experience.
• Skills: Strong Excel proficiency, ability to quickly learn new accounting systems, a detail-oriented and organized approach, along with strong analytical and communication skills.
• Bonus: Prior mortgage or loan accounting experience.
