This position is vital for managing complex lease accounting processes and ensuring precise financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP. The Staff Accountant’s work directly contributes to the accuracy of Welltower’s financial portfolio, supports regulatory compliance, and enhances operational efficiency across the company’s significant real estate assets.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage: Review the setup and maintenance of lease agreements in Yardi to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition over the agreement’s life.
• Develop: Create, update, and maintain rent schedules, and set up operating expense recovery schedules according to the legal terms of each lease.
• Report: Prepare internal reports on all new leasing activity monthly and provide supporting schedules for applicable external reporting requirements.
• Reconcile: Analyze and reconcile income statement and balance sheet accounts monthly, assisting with bad debt review and determinations.
• Ensure Compliance: Facilitate all audit requests related to leases from internal and external auditors, and provide documentation for SOX requirements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
• Experience: 0-3 years of accounting experience.
• Skills:
• Interpreting and understanding complex lease agreements, legal documents, and rent roll reports.
• Applying US GAAP principles to lease accounting for accurate financial reporting.
• Performing monthly analysis and reconciliation of income statement and balance sheet accounts.
• Preparing supporting documentation for internal reporting, external reporting, and SOX compliance.
• Collaborating with internal teams to ensure accurate input of lease terms and ancillary amounts.
• Bonus: Previous internships in accounting preferred.
