Staff Accountant | Myers & Stauffer

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role with Myers & Stauffer, a certified public accounting and health and human services consulting firm. Myers & Stauffer has over 900 associates nationwide and 45+ years of experience, specializing in audit, accounting, data management, and consulting services for government-sponsored health care programs, primarily state Medicaid agencies and the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The Staff Accountant will work within a multi-disciplinary team, performing detailed analyses of financial and non-financial information to verify data integrity and ensure compliance with Federal regulations, state Medicaid policies, and other applicable laws. This position is vital for supporting health care program integrity initiatives and assisting government clients who focus on those in need.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research Compliance: Conduct comprehensive research to accurately determine compliance with relevant Medicaid or other government program regulations, ensuring all activities align with current legal frameworks.
• Perform Analyses: Assist with executing various detailed analyses relating to federal and state compliance engagements, thoroughly examining both financial and non-financial information.
• Policy Review: Systematically review applicable Federal and State policies and regulations pertaining to healthcare, eligibility, reimbursement, and quality incentive programs to inform analytical work.
• Document Decisions: Prepare clear, professional, and well-supported written documents that effectively articulate professional decisions, findings, and recommendations.
• Data Integrity & Confidentiality: Maintain the highest standards of security and confidentiality for all protected health information (PHI) during analysis, and ensure meticulous electronic documentation of all work performed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, forming the foundational knowledge for this early-career position within a specialized healthcare compliance environment.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience is explicitly mandated. However, candidates with experience in health care auditing and data analysis, particularly those familiar with complex regulatory environments, are preferred. The role involves detailed analysis to determine compliance.
• Skills: Essential skills include strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, crucial for dissecting complex data and identifying non-compliance issues. Demonstrated excellence in both verbal and written communication is required for effective collaboration and report preparation. Candidates must be well-organized, possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and be adept at managing multiple deadlines and prioritizing assignments efficiently. Proficiency in applicable software programs and data querying tools, including the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word), is necessary for daily tasks.
• Bonus: A CPA certification, CPA candidate status, or a CFE designation is a strong preferred qualification. The ability to interpret and apply statutory/regulatory or other policy language to real-world scenarios is also highly valued.
