Staff Accountant | Addison Group

The Tone:
This is a direct hire Staff Accountant role based in McLean, VA, offering a hybrid work schedule that requires 1-2 days in-office per week. Our client is a growing organization seeking a detail-oriented professional to enhance its accounting team. This position is crucial for maintaining the accuracy and compliance of general accounting, payroll, project accounting, and financial reporting activities, thereby contributing to the overall financial integrity of the organization within a collaborative environment.

• Mission: To maintain accurate and compliant financial and accounting records across general ledger, payroll, and project accounting functions, supporting the client’s financial operations and reporting needs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger Management: Reconcile and meticulously maintain General Ledger accounts and balances to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
• Payroll Operations: Provide comprehensive support for bi-monthly payroll processing and all associated payroll activities, ensuring timely and correct compensation.
• Accounting Record Maintenance: Accurately maintain employee and accounting records within the company’s ERP system, including establishing new records for hires and subcontractors.
• Documentation & Compliance: Prepare, organize, and maintain essential supporting documentation for payroll, journal entries, accounts payable, fixed assets, and other accounting activities, while assisting with adherence to internal policies, GAAP, and government contracting regulations.
• Audit & Project Support: Support annual and periodic financial audits, manage incurred cost submissions, interact with government audit personnel, and partner with project control teams to track and close out active projects effectively.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career. U.S. citizenship is required for this position. Candidates should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. Essential domain knowledge includes GAAP and familiarity with government contracting accounting requirements.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in an accounting or finance role is required. You must possess direct, hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. This role demands strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, coupled with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary for collaborating across departments.
• Bonus: Prior accounting or finance experience specifically within the government contracting industry is preferred. Experience with ADP or similar payroll systems and advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities are a plus.
