Staff Accountant | Trexquant Investment LP

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Trexquant Investment LP, located in Stamford, CT. Trexquant is a growing systematic fund manager powered by a team of accomplished technologists who apply statistical and machine learning techniques to build investment portfolios. The firm trades client assets across global equity and futures markets, continuously expanding its strategies, data, infrastructure, and overseas offices. This role is crucial to support the management company’s day-to-day accounting operations and to serve as a trained backup for key Middle Office and Controller functions, contributing to the firm’s robust financial management.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable Management: Manage all invoice and accounts payable processes, including contract management, and support initiatives for workflow improvements and automation.
• Expense Reimbursement & Travel: Review and approve interview and relocation expense reimbursements against firm policy, and administer the employee travel booking platform, including onboarding travelers and approving bookings and expense exceptions.
• Financial Recordkeeping: Maintain the management company’s books and records, encompassing all necessary entries and supporting the monthly close process.
• Intercompany Transfers: Review intercompany cost allocation calculations and process funding transfers to overseas offices, ensuring compliance with established transfer pricing policies.
• Procedural Improvement: Maintain and continuously improve existing accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, suitable for an entry-level position.
• Experience: 0-3 years of accounting experience; internship or entry-level experience within a hedge fund or financial services environment is a plus but not required.
• Skills: Working knowledge of QuickBooks or a strong willingness to learn quickly, strong Excel skills including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and pivot tables, high attention to detail, and comfort managing high transaction volume across many vendors and counterparties.
• Bonus: An interest in learning fund accounting, NAV mechanics, and P&L reconciliation over time, and exposure to Geneva (SS&C/Advent) software.
