Staff Accountant | Cornerstone Servicing

The Tone:
This is an entry-level, full-time role at Cornerstone Servicing, located in Englewood, CO. Cornerstone Servicing, a division of Cornerstone Capital Bank, is a mortgage servicer recognized for its exceptional service and customer satisfaction. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting core accounting processes within the servicing center. The Staff Accountant will play a key part in the financial operations, contributing to the overall integrity and efficiency of the company’s accounting functions.

• Team: Works with Servicing Operations teams and supports the Assistant Controller and accounting team.
• Mission: This person ensures accurate recording and reconciliation of financial transactions related to mortgage servicing operations.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Record: Assist in recording daily, weekly, and monthly journal entries for operational loan activity and escrow transactions.
• Reconcile: Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and collaborate with the team to clear outstanding or aged items.
• Invoice: Prepare client invoicing on a monthly basis for services rendered.
• Process: Support Accounts Payable functions, including vendor invoice processing and month-end accruals.
• Collaborate: Serve as a positive liaison between the Accounting department and other departments, including Servicing Operations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; entry-level career stage.
• Experience: 0-2 years of accounting, finance, banking, or related professional experience; relevant internship experience is considered a plus.
• Skills: Basic understanding of accounting principles including debits, credits, reconciliations, and journal entries; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Bonus: Mortgage servicing or financial services experience is preferred but not required; strong interest in developing a career in accounting and mortgage servicing.
