The Tone:
This is an internship at Tampa Electric Company, located in Tampa, FL. Tampa Electric is a regulated electric utility that generates, transmits, and distributes electricity to more than 800,000 customers in West Central Florida, providing essential power and energy services to its community. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship / Volunteer
• Type: Part-time (20-30 hours)
• Location: In-person Tampa, FL (3600 Midtown Dr, Tampa, FL. 33607)
• Team: Corporate Accounting team responsible for enterprise-wide accounting for Tampa Electric Company and its affiliates.
• Mission: To ensure accurate and timely execution of corporate accounting activities, with a primary focus on ERP accounting systems, general ledger processing, and journal entry creation.
• Tech Stack: MS Excel, ERP SAP (preferred).

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare and process various journal entries, contributing to the overall general ledger processing activities.
• Payment Postings: Accurately post payments and support cash clearing processes within the accounting system.
• Invoice Creation: Create and issue invoices for internal and external transactions as needed.
• Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering necessary documentation and information.
• Financial Closeout: Provide support for month-end and year-end closeout procedures, aiding in the timely completion of financial reporting.
• Ad Hoc Requests: Fulfill any additional miscellaneous requests from the accounting team as required.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level position for a college undergraduate or graduate student. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited university program, pursuing a degree in a related discipline such as Accounting or Finance.
• Experience: No specific years of prior professional experience are required. However, candidates should possess a foundational understanding of basic accounting principles, particularly debits and credits. For students seeking a co-op placement, enrollment in their university’s co-op program is a requirement, with proof of enrollment needed. If not eligible for a co-op program, the student will be considered an intern.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential for this role. Candidates must also have a solid grasp of fundamental accounting concepts, including the application of debits and credits.
• Bonus: Prior familiarity or experience with ERP SAP systems would be a valuable asset to the team.
