Audit Accounting Intern | Mauldin & Jenkins

The Tone:
This is an internship at Mauldin & Jenkins, located in Baton Rouge, LA. Mauldin & Jenkins is a firm that provides audit, management services, and tax preparation for clients. This role is crucial for supporting client engagements and developing foundational accounting skills within the firm. The intern will contribute to various financial tasks, gaining practical experience in a professional environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Internal Controls: Assist with the study and evaluation of internal accounting controls.
• Financial Statements: Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Account Reconciliation: Examine client reconciliations of bank accounts and subsidiary accounts, investigating discrepancies.
• Tax Preparation: Review data input, identify and resolve technical tax issues, and assist in tax preparations.
• Tax Research: Identify, research, and assess various tax issues while providing information to senior staff members.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a college degree with a major or concentration in accounting, indicating an entry-level career stage, and able to provide own housing and transportation.
• Experience: Developing a foundational knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, auditing standards, and federal/state income tax laws, with a willingness for potential overnight travel.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, a commitment to accuracy with information, proficiency in using firm resources, a professional demeanor, and knowledge of the Firm.
