Social Media and Events Intern | Utah Transit Authority (UTA)

The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Utah Transit Authority (UTA), located in Salt Lake City, UT. UTA provides essential public transportation services that connect communities and facilitate mobility for residents. This role is crucial for ensuring UTA’s public messaging is consistent, engaging, and aligned with broader communication goals. The intern’s support directly contributes to maintaining a transparent social media presence and the successful execution of a significant agency event.

• Team: Communications team; reports to Social Media Strategist and Marketing Events & Sponsorships Coordinator
• Mission: To ensure UTA’s public messaging is consistent and engaging across digital platforms and to provide focused support for a major agency-priority event.
• Tech Stack: Facebook, Instagram, UTA blog, MS Outlook, MS Word

What You’ll Actually Do
• Social Media Management: Create, schedule, monitor, and manage content across UTA social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and the UTA blog.
• Public Engagement: Assist with responding to public inquiries and comments on social media in a timely, professional manner.
• Digital Content Creation: Develop social media messaging to support agency projects, initiatives, and event promotion, and prepare event materials, signage, and digital content.
• Event Coordination: Provide communications and logistical support for one large, UTA-hosted event, assisting with planning tasks, on-site setup, and day-of coordination.
• Strategy & Insights: Monitor social media trends, issues, and emerging platforms, sharing insights with the Communications team and assisting in strategy development.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled junior or senior at an accredited college or university, seeking an undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Experience: Experience using social media platforms and social media management software.
• Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong organizational and time-management skills; Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-directed; Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook and Word.
• Bonus: Previous experience with public relations, marketing, or event support is a plus; Valid driver’s license preferred.
