This Senior Safety Management Specialist role is critical for overseeing 24-hour, 7-day a week safety operations, ensuring comprehensive regulatory compliance and proactive hazard management across the organization. The position collaborates widely to design, implement, and maintain an effective environmental health and safety program.

The TL;DR

• Mission: This role proactively identifies and manages physical and behavior-based hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance and a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Manage and advise departments on regulatory compliance, encompassing standards and elements of performance from The Joint Commission EOC, Cal/OSHA, CMS, CDPH, CalEPA, NFPA, and other applicable agencies, while also leading the development and improvement of various safety programs.
• Conduct Inspections and Reporting: Assure accurate documentation of internal inspection findings, communicate serious hazards immediately with follow-up, document performance monitoring standards for action plans, and ensure timely and accurate reporting to illustrate compliance with internal and external requirements.
• Facilitate Emergency Management: Coordinate the overall operation of the hospital’s Emergency Management Program at the assigned site, including the development and maintenance of the Emergency Operations Plan, design and implementation of disaster exercises, and the review of the annual hazard vulnerability analysis.
• Oversee Daily Safety Operations: Serve as the assigned site’s Safety Officer and a member of the Leadership Team, directing the comprehensive safety program, managing environmental health and safety initiatives, and acting as the primary interface with external agencies regarding safety concerns.
• Drive Ergonomics and Safety Programs: Coordinate and conduct ergonomic evaluations to reduce employee injuries, develop and implement safety policies and training programs, identify occupational injury trends, and manage the StaySafe behavior-based safety program.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s Degree is required, positioning you as a Senior-level specialist responsible for environmental health, workplace safety, and emergency management operations within a healthcare setting.
• Experience: Requires at least 5 years of previous experience in environmental health and safety, including designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs, conducting hazard surveillance, exposure monitoring, and incident management.
• Skills: Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex topics to diverse audiences, alongside strong interpersonal and organizational skills, effective time management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• Bonus: A Master’s Degree is preferred, along with certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP); knowledge of safety and reliability science, Lean Six Sigma, Just Culture, and infection prevention is also a plus.
