What You’ll Actually Do
• Safety Culture Promotion: Actively promote and embed the Gilbane Cares safety culture across all project activities and with all personnel, fostering a proactive and inclusive safety mindset.
• Contractor Safety Management: Ensure that contractor activities are thoroughly preplanned for safety, including conducting scope reviews, participating in preconstruction meetings, reviewing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and utilizing Safety Task Assignments (STAs) to mitigate risks, while also confirming contractors meet all Gilbane safety submittal requirements and comply with the overall Gilbane safety plan and expectations.
• Safety Documentation and Oversight: Maintain comprehensive safety-related documentation for the project, make informed recommendations regarding situations potentially hazardous to employee safety or health, and utilize the SafetyNet system to regularly audit and monitor the project team’s implementation of the Safety Plan.
• Inspections and Training: Conduct at least 15 SafetyNet inspections per month, ensuring each inspection includes a minimum of 100 observations to identify and address potential hazards, and provide essential safety training to project teams covering Gilbane, client, and OSHA requirements.
• Incident Response and Resource Provision: Investigate all accidents and near misses thoroughly, completing all required associated paperwork, and ensure that project teams consistently have access to necessary safety equipment and resources.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an Entry-Level opportunity for individuals with a foundational understanding of construction safety. Candidates should ideally have college-level coursework in Safety or Engineering, providing a theoretical basis for identifying and mitigating workplace hazards.
• Experience: Requires 0-2 years of relevant professional experience in a safety-related capacity within a construction or similar environment, or an equivalent combination of education and direct practical experience.
• Skills: Possess a working knowledge of core construction safety principles, techniques, and methodologies, alongside familiarity with OSHA laws, regulations, and policies. Must be capable of identifying known potential exposures and effectively recommending corrective actions. Strong computer skills, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite, are essential, complemented by basic written and verbal communication skills and effective interpersonal abilities.
• Bonus: Preference for candidates who have completed college-level coursework specifically in Safety or Engineering disciplines, demonstrating a formal academic grounding in the field.
