RPCO Engineer | Naval Nuclear Laboratory

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, involving an initial assignment at either the Knolls (NY) or Bettis (PA) Laboratory, followed by relocation to various shipyards across the U.S. NNL is dedicated to developing advanced nuclear propulsion technology and training world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the nation’s submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. This role is crucial for providing on-site engineering oversight and support, upholding the company’s core values of Trust, Empowerment, and Collaboration to maintain national security.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-time
• Location: Knolls (NY) or Bettis (PA) for 1-2 years, then relocate to shipyards in Hampton Roads VA, Portsmouth ME, Groton CT, Honolulu HI, Bremerton WA, and other locations
• Pay: $63300–$96900 yearly
• Team: On-site representative for NNL and component supply organizations within shipyards
• Mission: Provide engineering support and independent oversight for the installation, servicing, testing, and modification of reactor plant systems, components, and safety systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Oversight: Provide independent oversight for the installation, reactor servicing, testing, and modification of reactor plant systems, components, and safety systems.
• Support: Offer direct engineering support for work associated with naval nuclear reactors and the ships in which they reside.
• Influence: Apply sound engineering principles and judgment to influence and provide feedback to on-site management and partner organizations.
• Decision Making: Make key observations and critical decisions regarding the safe operations of nuclear powered assets while working on the deckplates.
• Problem Resolution: Engage in reactor plant engineering support, including problem resolution and improvement initiatives, for aircraft carrier and submarine platforms.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field.
• Experience: Ability to complete a job-specific qualification, expected to take approximately one year, demonstrating an adequate understanding of requirements and the ability to function in a field location.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently while supporting team goals, capability to work in an industrial environment, and proficiency in learning and applying multiple engineering disciplines to complex problems.
• Eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen, pass a Federal background investigation for access to classified matter, and pass a drug test in compliance with federal regulations.
• Bonus: Minimum GPA of 3.5, a BS in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Physics, strong leadership and mentoring ability, and an eagerness to learn and adapt to varying tasks and responsibilities.
