About the Role
This is a preparatory position for a Michigan Medicine Staff CRNA, designed to transition a Registered Nurse Anesthetist Intern into a credentialed and privileged New Graduate Staff CRNA. The role involves performing duties under direct supervision during the internship phase and subsequently providing anesthesia and anesthesia-related care to patients independently under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, contributing to Michigan Medicine’s mission to improve patient health through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development.
What You’ll Do
• Perform all duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provider within the scope of practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) until certification and credentialing are successfully completed.
• Provide anesthesia and anesthesia related care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic and/or surgical procedures to all patients regardless of age under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, working collaboratively in a team environment, once credentialing and privileging have been achieved.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations.
• Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan with the CRNA and Anesthesiologist (internship) or with the anesthesiologist (post-credentialing).
• Contribute to or initiate and maintain appropriate perioperative anesthesia care.
• Contribute to or maintain appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation.
• Contribute to or complete postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies.
• Participate in ongoing projects.
• Support perioperative providers as appropriate.
• Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) due to radiation exposure.
• Fulfill required weekday, weekend and holiday obligations, including variable shift start times, shift lengths, and call obligations.
• Maintain licensure, certification, credentialing, and current BLS and ACLS or PALS status at all times.
You’re a Good Fit If You
• Have a current and accurate resume and application completed.
• Hold a minimum of a Master degree with graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program on or before 09/01/2026.
• Possess current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
• Hold current ACLS and BLS certification.
• Have the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to lead vests and aprons, powered air purifying respirators (PAPR) and N-95 masks.
• Are self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently, and exhibit excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Are prepared to successfully complete the National Certification Exam (NCE) within 45 days of graduating from an accredited CRNA program.
• Are prepared to initiate and provide Michigan Nurse Anesthetist Specialty certification documentation as soon as possible following successful completion of the NCE.
• Are prepared to successfully complete the credentialing and privileging process through Michigan Medicine.
• Are prepared to demonstrate satisfactory performance in the Intern role.
Bonus Qualifications
• Have a scheduled date for the National Certification Exam secured.
• Have five years of adult ICU nursing experience.
• Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal and communication skills.
• Will obtain a Doctoral degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program in the next 4 months.
Role Highlights & Compensation
• Hourly range for Registered Nurses is $41.78-$64.81/ hour.
• Evening Shift Differential: $3.00 / hour.

• Intern title will be changed to new graduate staff CRNA and pay adjusted based on collective bargaining agreement (CBA) following confirmation of meeting all required criteria.
• Upon successful completion of probation as a new graduate staff CRNA, seniority accrued will begin with the original date of hire as an Intern.
• This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union.
