Retail Merchandise Processor & Inventory Specialist | Goodwill

Your primary focus will be transforming raw donated goods into appealing, high-quality merchandise ready for sale. This critical position ensures our store remains well-stocked with items that delight our customers, directly contributing to the success of our mission.

• Mission: To manage donated goods by evaluating, preparing, and processing them into appealing merchandise for retail, ensuring a stocked store and customer satisfaction.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Evaluate & Prepare Merchandise: Diligently transfer and assess donated merchandise from containers, adhering to established guidelines to determine suitability for the sales floor. This includes maintaining up-to-date knowledge of brand names, designer labels, current trends, and vintage styles to accurately value and categorize items. You will thoroughly evaluate items for quality, pricing potential, overall value, and salability before preparing them for display.
• Sort & Process Apparel: Efficiently sort apparel into designated categories such as boutique, salable, and salvage, consistently meeting daily productivity quotas. Prepare items by placing them on hangers, organizing them onto rolling racks, and transporting them to the sales floor, ensuring similar items are grouped for easy browsing.
• Record & Manage Inventory: Accurately count and record all processed items on official logs and the Daily Hanger Report. Properly dispose of or containerize non-sellable merchandise according to store procedures, maintaining organized inventory flow.
• Ensure Productivity & Compliance: Consistently maintain a productive work pace to meet and exceed established processing quotas. Strictly adhere to all safety and security practices, promptly reporting any hazards or injuries to management, and upholding a professional image.
• Support Team & Customers: Support the team by assisting with the collection and initial stocking of donated merchandise. Deliver outstanding service and a positive experience to Goodwill’s valuable donors and retail customers, undertaking other related duties as assigned.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations and the ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and procedures are essential for this role. Effective verbal communication skills are also required to interact clearly and courteously with team members and customers.
• Experience: No specific duration of prior work experience is explicitly required; however, candidates must be prepared for continuous physical activities for extended durations within an 8-hour shift.
• Skills: Strong physical stamina is a must, involving continuous physical activities such as walking, stooping, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, and occasional climbing for up to 7 hours within an 8-hour shift. The role also requires the ability to frequently lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include at least six months of prior work experience, preferably in a retail, production, or warehouse setting, and a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in a warehouse environment, with merchandise pricing and evaluation, basic computer proficiency, and multilingual abilities with strong English proficiency are also a plus.
