Registered Nurse (RN) – Detailed Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Registered Nurse, providing exceptional professional nursing care to assigned patients. As an RN, you will play a vital role in the entire patient care continuum, from initial assessment to ongoing evaluation and modification of care plans.

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive professional nursing care to assigned patients. Your duties will encompass the full scope of the nursing process: assessment of patient needs, development of individualized plans of care, meticulous implementation of those plans, and continuous evaluation of outcomes. A commitment to delivering high-quality care is paramount to meet the Hospital’s core mission and ensure optimal patient well-being.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from a state-accredited school (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) (Preferred)

Work Experience

  • 1 Or More Years Of Nursing Experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current Georgia license (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required)
  • If working on a designated stroke unit:
    • Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) must be obtained within 2 years of hire.
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification must be obtained within 2 years of hire.

Essential Functions

The Nursing Process

  • Assessment:
    • Collects comprehensive and systematic data in an ongoing process, prioritizing collection based on the patient’s condition and needs.
  • Diagnosis:
    • Identifies key issues and develops appropriate nursing diagnoses based on thorough assessment data.
  • Outcomes Identification & Planning:
    • Identifies expected patient outcomes and develops a comprehensive plan of care based on diagnoses or identified issues.
    • Develops an individualized plan with specific strategies designed to address patient diagnoses effectively.
    • Provides for continuity of care through a well-defined plan that guides and directs other members of the healthcare team.
  • Implementation:
    • Implements the established plan of care in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.
    • Accurately documents the implementation process, noting any changes, modifications, or omissions from the identified plan.
    • Consults with other healthcare providers and makes appropriate referrals to facilitate comprehensive care.
    • Utilizes relevant community resources and systems to effectively implement the patient’s plan of care.
  • Evaluation:
    • Develops expected outcomes that provide clear direction for continuity of care.
    • Actively involves the patient, family, and other disciplines in determining expected outcomes.
    • Includes the patient and all involved in their care in the ongoing evaluation process.
    • Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan in relation to patient responses and established expected outcomes. Documents the results of this evaluation thoroughly.
    • Modifies expected outcomes as necessary based on changes identified in the ongoing assessment of the patient.

Documentation & Communication

  • Documents and submits all required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, and other relevant information.
  • Ensures that all documentation is meticulously tailored to the expected readers/users.
  • Uses correct medical and nursing terminology consistently.
  • Conforms to required style and format for all documentation.

Quality Improvement & Evidence-Based Practice

  • Utilizes the results of quality improvement activities to enhance nursing practice.
  • Applies creativity and innovation in nursing practice to continuously improve care delivery methods.
  • Incorporates evidence-based knowledge and research findings to initiate positive changes in nursing practice.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives and activities.

Professional Practice & Collaboration

  • Accountable for individual practice and effective delegation to provide optimum patient care.

  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility through self-education and attending ongoing educational programs.
  • Attends all staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements, along with competency evaluations, on time.
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates the usage of age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wears appropriate protective clothing and equipment as required.
